Baclayon Church

On this day of the 29th of March in the year of our Lord 1998, during the decade of nationalism and the celebration of the Philippine Centennial, on the twentieth year of the pontificate of his holiness, Pope John Paul 2, Cicar of Christ and Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, the immaculate Conception Parish Church, Baclayon, Bohol, founded in 1596 by the Jesuits, canonically established as a parish in 1717 and declared as a national historical landmark in 1994 by the Government of the republic of the Philippines, is singularly privileged to be honered bvy the presence and attendance of the President of the Philippines, his excellency Fidel V. Ramos on the occasion of the inaguration of Phase 1 and commencement of Phase 2 of the Baclayon Church restoration project celebrated in a solemn liturgical rite presided by his excellency Leopoldo S. Tumulak, DD Bishop of Tagbilaran.
On the eve of the 3rd Millennium, the very Rev Fr. Celso T. Laolao was the parish priest of Baclayon and Vicar Forane of the Our Lady of the Assumption Vicariate, the Rev. Fr. Milan Ted D. ROrralba was the parochial Vicar of Baclayon and chair of the Diocesan Commision for the Cultural Patrimony of the Church. During the restoration project which began in 1996, Mr. Vileado Plaza and Atty. Fe Virginia Odtohan were the chairs of the parish pastoral council assisted by Ms. Carmen Gatal, President of the Baclayon Church retrers Association, Inc. Implementation of the Restoration, Project was executed by the Local Government Unit of Baclayon during the incumbency of the honorable Mayor, Atty. Felix R. Uy and the honorable Vice Mayor Joel Oppus.
As an inter-agency project, our special tjamls tp Sec. Mina T. Gabor of the Department of Tourism as the funding agency, Philippine Tourism authority, national historical institute and the national comminssion for culture and the arts for xtending the necessary assistance for the scientific conservation and restoration of this national historical landmark

The Altar
Visitors wearing short and sleeveless dress are not allowed to enter inside. However, there is a lady outside the lend her huge scarf to cover your body. Actually, visitors looks like dalagang Filipina after wearing those tradional Maria Clara Scarf.

Unfortunately the Baclayon Church Museum is closed that day
