Steps to Make a Natural Moss Ball
Materials:
- Natural sheet moss or preserved moss
- Coconut coir, damp soil, or sphagnum moss
- Cotton string, jute twine, or fishing line
- Water in a spray bottle
- Scissors
Instructions:
-
Create the centre
Shape damp coconut coir, soil, or sphagnum moss into a firm ball using your hands. -
Secure the shape
Wrap cotton string or jute twine around the ball several times to prevent it from falling apart. -
Prepare the moss
Lightly spray the natural moss with water so it becomes soft and flexible. -
Cover the ball
Place pieces of moss around the entire ball. Slightly overlap the edges so the centre is completely hidden. -
Wrap the moss securely
Wind string or fishing line around the moss ball in different directions. Keep it firm without crushing the ball. -
Trim and shape
Use scissors to remove loose or uneven pieces, creating a neat, rounded appearance. -
Mist the finished ball
Spray it lightly with water. Display it in a bowl, on a tray, or hang it using natural twine.
For living moss, keep the ball in bright indirect light and mist it when it begins to dry. Preserved moss requires no watering.
