Hygrophila corymbosa, commonly called Temple Plant or Giant Hygro, is a fast-growing freshwater plant native to tropical and subtropical Asia. It is popular in aquariums because it is hardy, attractive and suitable for beginners.
Key characteristics:
- Broad, bright-green leaves
- Strong upright stems
- Commonly used as a background plant
- Grows underwater or partly above water
- Helps absorb nitrates but does not replace filtration
- Provides cover for guppies, shrimp and small fish
Basic aquarium care:
- Temperature: approximately 20–29°C
- Lighting: low to bright, although moderate light is preferable
- CO₂: optional
- Planting: bury the roots and lower stem in aquarium substrate
- Maintenance: trim regularly because it can grow quickly
- Propagation: cut a healthy upper stem and replant it in the substrate
It could work inside your gallon aquarium, but choose a smaller variety and trim it frequently so its leaves do not crowd the limited swimming space.
